Everything you need to know — for students and teachers

For Students

What happens if my teacher doesn't show up?

In rare cases of teacher no-shows, Scolingo support will review the situation and ensure a fair resolution for you. The funds will be returned to your Scolingo balance, or if you booked a lesson from a package, one lesson will be returned to your package.

What if something goes wrong with my lesson?

If you experience any technical or scheduling issues, our support team is here to help. Please reach out anytime at contact@scolingo.com.

Do teachers follow a fixed curriculum?

No. Lessons are personalized and adapted to each student's level, goals, and interests - whether that's conversation practice, exam preparation, professional language use, or structured learning.

Can I book lessons for a specific goal, such as an exam, work, or travel?

Yes. Teachers tailor lessons to specific goals, including language exams, professional communication, relocation, or travel preparation.

Can I take lessons with more than one teacher?

Yes. Some students choose to work with multiple teachers for different skills, such as one for conversation practice and another for grammar or exam prep.

Can I change my teacher later?

Yes. If your goals change or you'd like to experience a different teaching style, you're free to explore and book lessons with other teachers at any time.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Lessons can be cancelled up to 24 hours before the scheduled start time. Within 24 hours of the lesson, cancellation is not possible - you can let your teacher know, but the lesson fee will still apply in order to respect the teacher's reserved time. Also, lessons can be rescheduled up to 12 hours before the scheduled start time. Within 12 hours, editing lesson time/date will not be possible.

How frequently should I take lessons?

For best results, we recommend 2–3 lessons per week for faster progress, or 1 lesson per week for maintenance and conversation practice. Ultimately, the right frequency depends on your personal goals and schedule.

Do lessons happen one-on-one or in groups?

Most lessons are one-on-one, but some teachers may offer group lessons or special formats. These options are clearly marked on each teacher's profile.

Are lesson materials included in the lesson price?

While this often depends on your specific teacher – as many provide custom exercises and notes at no extra cost – you can always take advantage of our extensive library of free learning resources directly on the Scolingo platform.

Do I get a discount if I buy a lesson package?

It depends on the teacher, but in many cases, yes. That is the point of buying packages! Teachers may offer discounted rates for multiple lessons purchased together. Available packages and pricing are displayed directly on each teacher's profile.

What languages can I learn on Scolingo?

Scolingo offers a growing range of languages taught by professional teachers. Available languages are displayed on the platform and continue to expand.

Is Scolingo suitable for complete beginners?

Yes. Many teachers specialize in working with beginners and will guide you step by step from the very basics.

Will my profile be visible immediately after applying?

No. All teacher profiles are reviewed and approved before being published on the platform. You will receive an email as soon as we approve your profile.

Will Scolingo provide teaching support or resources?

Yes. Teachers are supported in two ways. The Teacher Corner offers practical guidance on how to structure and deliver great lessons – including tips, best practices, and advice for building strong learning journeys with students. In addition, the Teaching Materials section provides ready-to-use resources in English that are universal and can be used for teaching any language across different levels, including beginner-friendly content and Daily Digest articles with conversation prompts to help inspire engaging lessons. This is an area we’re continuously growing, with more resources always in development.

How do I set up my teacher profile?

Complete your basic information, add a bio, create your lesson types and class offerings - including duration, pricing, and any lesson packages. All the details and guidance you need for setting up your profile will be available in the Teacher Corner A complete profile improves your visibility and increases your booking rate.

Where can I add my certificates and education?

During the application process, you will be asked to attach your diploma or relevant certificates for review. Once your profile is approved, education details can be added and edited under My Teacher Profile, where they will appear in your public profile.

How do I set up my availability?

Availability is managed through the Calendar in Scolingo. You can set available hours, block specific time slots, or block entire days directly from the calendar view. Your availability can be updated at any time to reflect your personal schedule, breaks, or changes.

Can I choose 30-minute lessons?

Yes. Lesson duration is set under Class Offerings, and teachers can offer 30-minute lessons as one of their formats. Available offerings are 30-, 45-, 60-, and 90-minute classes.

Are there any teacher levels or recognition programs on Scolingo?

Yes. Scolingo has a four-level progression system, Verified Teacher, Experienced Teacher, Pro Teacher, and Ambassador, each unlocked through lesson milestones and qualifications. Along the way, commission rewards at 400 and 800 lessons temporarily reduce the platform's cut and give you a preview of higher-level status, while reaching 800+ lessons permanently unlocks the Exp badge and increased visibility. At 1,200+ lessons with a C1/C2 certificate or a language degree, you become a Pro Teacher with permanent priority placement and faster student matching, and once any Experienced or Pro Teacher hits 2,000 lessons, that commission drop becomes permanent.

What is the Scolingo Ambassador Program?

The Ambassador Program is an elite, application-based program for our most dedicated teachers. To be eligible, you need 1,500+ completed lessons, strong ratings, and an active social media presence. Being accepted means you genuinely represent Scolingo - it's not automatic, and that's intentional.
Ambassadors receive a Scolingo Ambassador badge on their profile, a featured spot on the Scolingo website and LinkedIn, priority access to new features before launch, a personal LinkedIn shoutout from Scolingo, access to a private community with other top teachers and the Scolingo team, and a long-term commission reduction.

What should I consider when setting my lesson price?

When setting your price, consider your experience and qualifications, the time you spend on lesson preparation, your target students and lesson focus, and how you'd like to position yourself - whether as an introductory or advanced-level teacher. You can adjust your prices at any time.

Can I update my prices later?

Yes. Teachers can adjust lesson prices at any time to reflect changes in experience, demand, or lesson structure.

Do I have to offer trial lessons?

No, but it is recommended. Trial lessons are optional, but many teachers choose to offer them as a way to attract new students and establish a good fit before committing to ongoing lessons. If you do offer trial lessons, keep them structured but relaxed, with clear next steps for the student.

Is there a minimum number of hours I need to teach?

No. Teachers set their own schedules and decide how many hours they want to teach. There is no minimum commitment.

Can I pause my availability if I'm on vacation or busy?

Yes. You can block specific time slots or entire days in your calendar whenever needed, with no restrictions on when or how often.

Can I teach students from different time zones?

Yes. Scolingo is a global platform, and the calendar automatically adjusts to accommodate different time zones.

Can I decline or stop working with a student?

Yes. Teachers are encouraged to maintain professional boundaries. If expectations are not aligned, you can choose to stop working with a student.

Do I need to prepare lesson plans in advance?

Not necessarily. Preparation is recommended but flexible. How structured your lessons are depends on your teaching style and the student's goals.

How and when do teachers get paid?

Teachers set their own availability and lesson pricing. Earnings are added to your balance after each completed lesson. Once your balance reaches $50, you can request a payout through your selected payment method. Payout details and status are available in Wallet on your dashboard. Full details are outlined in our Terms & Conditions.

Can I use different payment methods?

Currently, payouts are processed through Payoneer. Teachers will need a Payoneer account to receive their earnings. Additional payment options may be introduced in the future.
